Chapter 19
With the piercing, one of Ethel’s ears had developed a small tear, that William wanted treated through plastic surgery. He managed to find a physician, a doctor Hellman in London, who could help. An appointment was made, and Ethel appeared, high heeled and wearing a white leather belt on her waist. Also, she wore her pink stud in one of her nostrils. When the doctor came in, he told her: “Take of your coat; I want to be able to see you entirely”.
Walking around her, he touched and examined her waist, hips and ribs. Then he called his assistant and asked her: “Have you seen such a thing ever before in your life?” Her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, and she could actually hardly utter a word with amazement. He was very interested and would like to take an X-ray picture of her. Then he looked at her ears and said: amazing, who did all these piercings?”. William confessed it had been him. Also, the piercings in her nose did not pass him by unnoticed. “Do you have any other piercings in your body?”
William said that both her nipples were pierced as well, upon which the doctor asked if he could see them.
After a fairly long conversation, Ethel and William left the doctor, who had said he would think about how to best do the procedure.
In the mean time, Ethel and William felt ready to open the curtains and come out into the spotlights.
Their holiday, in 1956, was a good time for them to start expressing this desire. They crossed England on their mopeds and they had no trouble at all with having Ethel appear in public. Wherever they came, people were amazed and many wanted to touch her waist, to convince themselves that it was true. Also, no one could believe this woman had a daughter, 24 years of age already.
The next two years the didn’t have much opportunity to make such trips, as Ethel had to take care of William’s father, who was confined to bed. William had become a member of the Royal Astronomical Society and was invited to a congress in N. Staffordshire.
The doctor thought it would be wise for Ethel to go along with William, as taking care of her father-in-law had weakened her.
At dinner, on the congress, Ethel wore a green and white dress, with a matching belt around her waist. A very successful ensemble.
The people that hadn’t seen Ethel before were astounded with her waist, and the serving personnel could not take their eyes of Ethel.
Not long after, Ethel and William went to the wedding of a niece, in Cambridge. Ethel took one of her most beautiful dresses, with a belt of polished aluminium, that showed her waist to perfection.
Many people commented on her splendid figure, and asked her how she had achieved it. William’s father died in August 1958, and with that, Ethel regained her freedom. Soon they were taking part in all sorts of events again, and showing themselves in public often.
